Advocacy
Arts Education is a key component of every person’s education. Arts Education does not see color, race, religion or political affiliation. It does allow each student to achieve their maximum level of performance, self-reliance, interpersonal connection and team collaboration. While major researchers such as Howard Gardner of Harvard University and James Catterall of UCLA place strong emphasis on the arts as a critical mode of learning, legislators and school board members are often not so well informed.
It is part of our mission to support local and district level advocacy. SWMEA is also working to be active in support of arts education at the state level through key partnerships.
